Nile Gardiner is Director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom and Bernard and Barbara Lomas Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. Before joining Heritage, Dr. Gardiner served as Foreign Policy Researcher and aide to Lady Thatcher in her private office in London, assisting her with her final book, Statecraft: Strategies for a Changing World and advising her on a number of international issues. He has a broad range of international experience, and has lived in four continents: Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.

An American and British citizen, Dr. Gardiner is a prominent expert on the U.S./UK Special Relationship, American and British foreign policy and U.S. policy towards Europe. As a leading authority on transatlantic relations, Gardiner has advised the executive branch of the United States government on a range of key issues. He has testified several times before the United States Congress, and his policy papers and analysis are read widely on Capitol Hill, where he is regularly sought after for advice on major foreign policy and national security matters.

Nile Gardiner frequently briefs delegations of political leaders and journalists from the UK, Europe, and across the world, and has served as a foreign policy advisor to three U.S. presidential candidates. He received his M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in History from Yale University, and B.A. and M.A. in Modern History from Oxford University.
