John W. York researched and wrote on America’s founding principles and their application to today’s policy issues.

As a policy analyst in the B. Kenneth Simon Center for Principles and Politics, York specialized in utilizing the precepts of the American political tradition to understand and critique modern concerns of federalism, the bureaucracy, money and politics, and political parties and interest groups.

His writings have appeared in various publications, including National Review Online, The Federalist, and The Washington Times. He was also frequent contributor to the Heritage Foundation’s multimedia news outlet, The Daily Signal.

York was born in Fairfax County, Virginia, and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a bachelor of arts in Political Science at Kenyon College in Ohio, a Master’s degree in Politics at the University of Virginia, and his Ph.D from the University of Virginia. Before joining Heritage he worked at the Program for Constitutionalism and Democracy at the University of Virginia as the Director of Public Relations and a teaching fellow for one year.

Prior to graduate school, John served in the Coast Guard as a deck watch officer stationed aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Mellon for three years. He also earned a Rumsfeld Foundation Fellowship for his work on interest groups and political parties.
