WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation announced Monday the launch of a billboard advertising campaign in Texas to thank Gov. Greg Abbott for his commitment to expanding education options for families.

The advertising campaign runs through the end of the month in the metropolitan areas of Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Midland, Texas.

“The Heritage Foundation thanks Gov. Abbott for supporting kids and families,” said Heritage President Kevin Roberts. “This is the policy—and the leadership—that Americans are looking for at this critical moment. We need leaders who have the courage and determination to take on the education elites on behalf of parents and students across this country. Heritage looks forward to helping Texas get this done in 2023.”

Abbott last week called for comprehensive education reform that would include education choice options for all Texas families. He specifically cited the importance of ensuring that education funding follows each student—a position supported by Heritage and other education reform organizations.

“Empowering parents means giving them the choice to send their children to any public school, charter school, or private school with state funding following the student,” Abbott said May 9, adding that school choice “is going to give all Texas children a better chance to succeed.”

Heritage is already laying the groundwork ahead of the Texas Legislature’s 2023 session when policymakers will consider education reform. Empowering parents to make education choices is among Heritage’s seven strategic priorities.
