WASHINGTONThe Heritage Foundation welcomes Dean Ball as a new visiting fellow in the Center for Technology and the Human Person where he will play a role in crafting policy that will ensure emerging technologies strengthen human dignity, protect individual liberty, and promote responsible innovation.

Heritage executive vice president, Derrick Morgan, welcomed Dean to the team, stating:

In a rapidly evolving field, Dean understands both the technology and the ideological fault lines as well as anyone. He will help Heritage lead the conversation, recognizing both the promise and the risks of AI, while developing a principled approach that ensures America, not China, shapes the future of this technology and safeguards our republic for the next generation.”

Prior to joining Heritage, Dean served as senior policy advisor for artificial intelligence and emerging technology at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and as strategic advisor for AI at the National Science Foundation.

Dean Ball remarked on his appointment:

“As AI advances accelerate by the month, the question of what values and principles should undergird the development and use of the technology becomes ever more important. The American Right must play a leading role in shaping the answer. It is an honor to help The Heritage Foundation, one of the right’s preeminent institutions, form their contribution to this vital field.”
