Heritage Foundation Experts Condemn Terror Attack in Sydney, Australia

WASHINGTON—Today, Heritage Foundation experts released a statement condemning the gruesome antisemitic terror attack carried out on the first night of Hanukkah in Sydney, Australia.

Victoria Coates, vice president of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, and Daniel Flesch, senior policy analyst for the Middle East and North Africa at the Allison Center for National Security, stated:

“This horrific attack against Jews celebrating the first night of Hanukkah demonstrates that the global war on the Jewish people continues. Across the world, Jewish communities have been under continual attack in the last two years. This is what is meant by those who advocate or condone ‘globalize the intifada.'

“While Australia was forced to take steps to expel Iranian state sponsors of antisemitic terror, the fact remains that it has imported Islamist terrorists into its country and allowed anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiment and demonstrations to persist, even recognizing a Palestinian state, putting its Jewish community at risk, to this tragic end.

“Hanukkah is a holiday of liberation, when the Jewish people defeated the Seleucid Greeks who sought to extinguish Jewish life in the Land of Israel. Today, there are still those who seek to extinguish Jewish life and practice, be it in the State of Israel or in the Jewish diaspora.”

The Heritage Foundation stands unwavering in our support for the Jewish people and the State of Israel. We ask for prayer for the victims, our nation, and our world as we continue our longstanding fight against antisemitism in all its forms.
