Heritage President on House Speaker Election

WASHINGTON—Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts made the following statement ahead of the House of Representatives’ vote for Speaker on Tuesday.

“Last November, the American people voted for new leadership in the U.S. House. Now, as members of the House gather to elect a Speaker, conservatives must be steadfast in their demands for a Leader who is prepared to deliver on the promises made to voters.

“Conservative lawmakers have made reasonable requests for more representation on key committees, rules that impose meaningful spending constraints, prioritizing critical policy goals like border security, and more.

“The next Speaker will set the House’s policy agenda, and conservatives must have a say in the process. We are tired of broken promises from leaders in Washington. Now is the time for members of Congress to insist on changes and a seat at the table.”
