WASHINGTON — The Heritage Foundation launched a video Tuesday featuring Heritage President Kay C. James calling out the left’s latest attempt to weaken election security and manipulate elections so that they can gain power and implement their radical agenda. After the widely unpopular and misnamed “For the People Act” failed in the U.S. Senate, the left has shifted its focus to HR 4, euphemistically titled “The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.” Although the bill is named after a civil rights icon, the legislation would result in making it easier for cheaters to cheat in elections and would cancel the votes of eligible, law-abiding voters of all races and backgrounds.

James released the below statement on HR 4:
“Election laws shouldn’t favor any political party or candidate over another; instead, they should simply promote free, fair, and secure elections so that every American citizen, regardless of political affiliation, can trust the voting process and its results.
“Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our republic, and because of this, The Heritage Foundation has spent years working to ensure the integrity of our elections to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat.
“Unfortunately, with legislation like the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the left’s goal is to flip election integrity on its head and manipulate elections in their favor to gain more power. Regardless of how they dress up the legislation, even naming it after a historic civil rights leader, the left is attempting to impose a federal takeover of elections and remove critical safeguards that protect all Americans’ sacred right to vote. The left has done the analysis and calculated that fraud favors them in elections, so they are willing to tolerate and even encourage more of it, even though every fraudulent vote cancels out the legitimate vote of another citizen.
“The bottom line is, leftist politicians in Washington are willing to destroy Americans’ right to vote in order to increase their own power. We refuse to let them turn our democratic republic into a banana republic controlled by corrupt politicians and no longer by the people.”
Hans von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow and manager of Heritage’s Election Law Reform Initiative, said the following:
“HR 4 is a backdoor way of achieving the same goals as HR 1: a complete takeover of the election process by the federal government and the voiding of all state integrity measures designed to protect voters like ID requirements. It would give federal bureaucrats veto power over state legislators and take away their ability to make their own decisions on the rules and regulations governing elections in their states. It is a reckless, unconstitutional, and unwise bill that would imperil the security of future elections.”

Politicians in Washington are trying to impose a federal takeover of elections and force changes to state laws that would allow for greater fraud and tampering.

H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, is named after a civil rights icon. But its intent isn’t to protect a right John Lewis and so many others fought for.
In reality, it’s a power grab by politicians who want to manipulate elections to try to stay in office, regardless of what voters want.
That’s the stuff of Third World banana republics.
Politicians will tell you they’re just trying to stop voter suppression.
But they aren’t.
Instead, they want to make it easier for cheaters to commit voter fraud because they think the cheaters will vote for them. It’s that simple.
