WASHINGTON — Heritage Foundation President Kay C. James made the following statement about Elaine Chao’s service as secretary of the Department of Transportation:

“I want to thank Elaine Chao for her dedicated work in the public, private, and charitable sectors before serving our country with distinction as the secretary of transportation. As secretary of labor under President George W. Bush, as director of the Peace Corps, as president of the United Way of America, and during her time with The Heritage Foundation, Elaine has always been a leader and a real inspiration to many, myself included.

“Elaine is a longtime friend who I know is committed to the principles that make this country what it is. Having immigrated from Taiwan as a young girl and rising to the highest levels of leadership, she is a true American success story. I wish her all the best.”
