WASHINGTON, October 17, 2017 – The Heritage Foundation today will honor Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, with an award recognizing individuals who, after interning at the think tank, have gone on to become leaders of the conservative movement.

Dannenfelser has made historic contributions to growing the pro-life movement in America for nearly a quarter of a century. While a student at Duke University, she ardently supported abortion, serving as the “pro-choice chair”of the College Republicans. Yet after interning at Heritage during the summer of 1986, she became one of the greatest voices for the unborn. In 1992, she helped found the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life advocacy organization.

Over the past 24 years, Dannenfelser has grown Susan B. Anthony List to over 600,000 members nationwide and placed the organization at the forefront of the pro-life movement. The organization seeks to combine “politics with policy, investing heavily in voter education to ensure that pro-life Americans know where their lawmakers stand on protecting the unborn.”

Dannenfelser will receive Heritage’s “Robin and Jocelyn Martin Young Leaders Program Distinguished Intern Alumni Award” at a ceremony held as part of the think tank’s annual President’s Club Meeting in Washington, D.C. Last year, the award went to Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.

Established in 1979, The Heritage Foundation’s intern program teaches college students and recent graduates about America’s founding principles and how they apply to the issues of today. Dannenfelser and Cotton are among thousands of former Heritage interns who have gone on to successful careers in government, academia, public policy, and the private sector. With this award,Heritage wishes not only to recognize exceptional conservatives, but also to encourage current and former Heritage interns to strive for greatness.

This is by no means the first time Dannenfelser’s achievements have been honored. In 2013, Newsmax named her one of the nation’s “25 Most Influential Republican Women.” In 2016, she was selected by then-candidate Donald Trump to lead his campaign’s Pro-Life Coalition.

Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is the nation’s most widely supported think tank, with a membership of more than a half-million individual donors.
