Getting a cosmetology license takes 12 times longer than getting an EMT license.

According to the Institute for Justice, its takes 372 days of training and/or experience, on average, to get a license to practice cosmetology. On the other hand, a person needs only 33 days of training and/or experience, on average, to become a licensed emergency medical technician. Other jobs that have greater average training requirements than EMTs include interior designer, glazier, tree trimmer, auctioneer, and home entertainment installer. Why are these seemingly low-risk jobs so heavily regulated?
