Steve DeBuhr helped lead The Heritage Foundation's major gifts team, which consists of eight regional managers, and develops resources to maximize their effectiveness. He also was responsible for communicating Heritage’s mission to members who reside in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.

Prior to his promotion in January 2011, DeBuhr was donor relations manager for the Midwest region for three years.

DeBuhr came to Heritage in 2008 from nine years at the Family Research Council (FRC), a think tank that champions the importance of marriage and family, where he was senior director of development. He managed FRC field staff responsible for major donors while personally handling donor relations in several states – something he previously did in 12 states.

Before that, DeBuhr worked for 10 years in sales and sales management, first with Procter and Gamble in Chicago and later, after a move to Indianapolis, with Laura’s Lean Beef and Palmer Snyder Furniture.

DeBuhr received a bachelor of arts degree in business from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He and his wife, Diana, and their three children currently reside near Indianapolis. He serves in leadership positions at their local church and enjoys coaching youth sports as well as other outdoor pursuits.
