WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation today announced that former Polish President Andrzej Duda has joined the organization as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow, reflecting Heritage’s long-standing work with conservative leaders abroad who believe in a “new Europe” rooted in sovereignty, secure borders, democratic self-government, and the critical responsibility to provide for their national defense.
During his Presidency, Duda served as head of state of one of NATO’s most strategically important member countries. He played a significant role in strengthening Poland’s defense posture, increasing allied defense-spending commitments, and reinforcing cooperation among democratic nations amid heightened geopolitical risk.
Dr. Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action, welcomed former President Duda:
“President Duda governed with a clear-eyed understanding of what nations owe their people: secure borders, public safety, and the courage to stand up to self-appointed global elites. His experience defending Poland's national sovereignty in Europe offers valuable lessons for Americans committed to restoring self-government at home. We are pleased to welcome him to Heritage at a moment when the future of the West depends on nations that still remember who they serve.”
Victoria Coates, vice president of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, added:
“Under President Duda’s leadership, Poland moved decisively to reinforce national defenses and improve military readiness while much of Europe hesitated. His leadership is proof of the positive impact that dedicated conservatism has on our national security and global cooperation.”
Former President Duda remarked on his new role at Heritage:
“I am honored to join The Heritage Foundation as a Visiting Fellow. As President of Poland, I saw firsthand how deterrence, defense investment, strong democratic alliances, and national resolve preserve freedom. I look forward to contributing that experience to Heritage’s long-standing work advancing conservative policy solutions for Europe.”
As a Visiting Fellow, Duda will work on transatlantic security, European defense readiness, democratic resilience, and policy recommendations for the future of conservative leadership in Europe.
Heritage has, for several decades, welcomed the opportunity to work with key transatlantic allies, including former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who understand that freedom depends on strong borders, security requires strength, and democracy must be defended. Duda’s experience leading a frontline NATO nation will bring invaluable insight to these efforts.
