WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation today released the following statements in response to an announcement by President Donald J. Trump on access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and holistic fertility care that address the root causes of infertility.
Roger Severino, vice president for domestic policy at The Heritage Foundation:
“In hearing the poignant desires of Americans who want kids of their own, the question has always been, what is the proper way to help. President Trump thankfully decided against Obamacare-style mandates and subsidies in this ethically fraught area while also opening the door wide to treatments addressing root causes of infertility in true Make America Health Again (MAHA) fashion.”
Emma Waters, a policy analyst in the Center for Technology and the Human Person at The Heritage Foundation:
“The President’s action exposed how the under-regulated, multi-billion-dollar fertility industry has profited excessively from emotionally vulnerable couples struggling to have kids. Big Fertility has resisted calls, like the president’s, to expand access to treatments that cure infertility because it challenges their one-solution business model.
“President Trump’s announcement promises to address ‘root causes’ of infertility, which naturally includes Restorative Reproductive Medicine, or RRM, which addresses hormone imbalances, endometriosis, or metabolic issues that can often be cured with proper diagnosis and treatment.
“Supporting care that improves natural fertility, lowers miscarriage risk, and strengthens overall health at lower cost is squarely in line with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr.’s MAHA agenda.”
