Alex Welz is the senior research associate for the Middle East and North Africa in the Heritage Foundation's Allison Center for National Security, where he engages with critical national security issues across the region, contributes research on strategic developments, and develops policy recommendations aimed at strengthening American leadership and security.
He previously was an assistant editor at the Washington Free Beacon, and his work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, National Review, the National Interest, and Jewish News Syndicate.
Welz is a native of Erie, Pennsylvania, having graduated with honors from Mercyhurst University with degrees in intelligence studies and political science before earning his master's in national security studies from the University of Haifa in northern Israel. Before pursuing his post-graduate degree, he worked as an international logistics specialist at a global supply chain company.
