Description
Many of the challenges facing children today trace back to a one-size-fits-all mass schooling model established in the United States in the 1800s. This system – which prioritized uniformity and efficiency – was explicitly designed to produce obedient factory workers and soldiers, not independent thinkers or healthy citizens.
Today’s children are paying the price. Join Heritage as we convene experts to explore policy solutions for how to build a better system that nurtures well-educated and mentally and physically healthy children. First, we’ll hear from the creators behind Angel Studios’ new documentary, The Death of Recess, which exposes the unintended consequences of the sharp decline of unstructured playtime in American schools. Then, we’ll dive into how our current education structures, from rigid schedules to standardized expectations, harm the development of our children.
We’ll also delve into the benefits of adequate sleep – noting how early school start times rob young, developing minds of needed rest. Additional topics include providing healthier food in schools, implementing more rigorous physical education, and reducing overmedication of children who simply need to learn through play. Panelists will also highlight alternative educational models, like homeschooling, and practical ways to hold the teachers union cartel accountable for sacrificing children at the altar of woke ideology.
