The Heritage Foundation Welcomes Daniel McCarthy as Distinguished Fellow in Conservative Thought

WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation has hired Daniel McCarthy as the distinguished fellow in conservative thought within Heritage’s B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies.

In his new role, McCarthy will focus on conservative thought, America’s founding, and republican order.

McCarthy comes to Heritage from Intercollegiate Studies Institute, where he served as vice president of publications. In that role, he oversaw the organization’s publishing section that put out “The Gems of American History,” by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Walter McDougall, and “The Man Who Invented Conservatism: The Unlikely Life of Frank S. Meyer,” by Daniel J. Flynn.

McCarthy made the following statement:

“The Heritage Foundation is the rock on which the conservative movement stands. I’m thrilled and honored to join Heritage as a distinguished fellow in conservative thought, and I take great inspiration from the character and example of my late friend, the indefatigable Lee Edwards, who first filled this role.

“I’m excited to be a part of Heritage’s work in strengthening our country; reinvigorating the principles of prosperity for all Americans, from the factory floor to the boardroom; and restoring respect for citizenship, the family, and the enduring virtues of our civilization.”

Jay Richards, vice president of Heritage’s social and domestic policy, added the following:

“Daniel McCarthy's thoughtful scholarship on American principles revives the timeless wisdom of conservatism, making him an invaluable addition to the Simon Center.

“As a masterful writer and editor, Daniel distills the essence of conservative thought with clarity and depth, strengthening our mission at Heritage to defend republican order, liberty, and opportunity."
