WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation announced the launch of its 2024 China Transparency Report on Thursday. The report details the lack of transparency rampant within the Communist-controlled People’s Republic of China and describes how this corruption poses a direct threat to the United States.

The report details the dependency of the United States on Chinese pharmaceuticals, minerals needed for our economy and military, the infiltration of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) into the U.S. education system, and the tracking of personal information through technologies such as TikTok.

This groundbreaking report serves as a vital tool for informed decision-making, addressing the urgent need to safeguard U.S. interests in the face of these threats.

The report’s editors, Jeff M. Smith, director of the Asian Studies Center at The Heritage Foundation, and Andrew Harding, research assistant in the Asian Studies Center at The Heritage Foundation, said:

“It’s no secret that the Chinese Communist Party severely lacks transparency. To win the New Cold War, the United States needs access to credible, in-depth, and transparent data on the CCP’s actions and intentions. The 2024 China Transparency Report serves as the one-stop shop for policymakers and scholars needing the resources to craft data-driven policy solutions across key fields of competition.”

Victoria Coates, vice president of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation, commented on today’s launch:

“The 2024 China Transparency Report will be the go-to source for accurate data on everything from China’s economy to its military for all Americans who are concerned with this threat.  If we want to defeat our greatest adversary, first and foremost, we have to know what we’re fighting, and this report exposes how China is preparing to confront the United States.”
