‘Election Interference by Omission’: Oversight Project Files FOIA Requests on Classified Biden Docs

WASHINGTON—Mike Howell, director of Heritage’s Oversight Project, released the following statement Tuesday in response to reports that classified documents were discovered late last year on the premises of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, an organization closely associated with Joe Biden and partially funded by Chinese interests. Some of those documents were reportedly labeled “sensitive compartmented information,” an upper-level classification used for highly sensitive information obtained from intel sources.

The Oversight Project filed two separate Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests today to obtain more information.

“There are seemingly two standards of justice in our federal government right now, and Americans are tired of it. Documents in the Secret Service-protected home of former President Donald Trump and declared declassified by him earned a massive FBI raid, while those sitting in a closet at President Biden's Chinese-supported ‘think tank’ in an unsecured downtown D.C. office building have gotten the ‘we’ll look into it’ response from Biden’s Department of Justice.

“This is rotten D.C. politics at its worst. These documents were discovered in early November, just six days before the midterms, and we are only just now finding out about them. Does anyone think if this had been President Trump or any other Republican, the news wouldn’t have been leaked immediately for political gain? We needn’t wonder—just look at all the affirmative updates, releases, and leaks in the Trump case. This was election interference by omission.

“Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, and the National Archives and Records Administration had a duty to inform the public about this when it was discovered. They didn’t. We deserve to know why.

“Rest assured, the Oversight Project is working to get to the bottom of this. We have filed FOIA requests to find out who in the administration knew about this, and when. And if we’re stonewalled, we will sue.”
