The White House announced Monday it will nominate Charles "Cully" Stimson to be general counsel of the Department of the Navy. Stimson previously served as the senior legal fellow and manager of Heritage's National Security Law Program.

Edwin Feulner, President of The Heritage Foundation, for whom Stimson previously worked as chief of staff before stepping into the legal fellow post, and James Carafano, vice president of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, released the following statements congratulating Stimson on his nomination: 

Feulner: "I have known and admired the fine legal mind of Cully Stimson since I first met him as a young high school instructor. His work in the Pentagon and in the Naval Judge Advocate General's Corps make him an outstanding selection for General Counsel of the Department of the Navy, and Linda and I extend our very best wishes to him in his new position. While I am sad to see Cully move on from Heritage, I know that in his role as the Navy’s general counsel he will lead with integrity, and offer sound, upright and wise advice to those leading our military and our country."
