WASHINGTON — Today marks the start of National Police Week, and The Heritage Foundation’s top crime experts and former prosecutors are urging the nation to support their law enforcement communities as crime surges across the United States.
Cully Stimson, a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation and a former state and federal prosecutor made the following statement:
“Now is more important than ever to back our brave men and women serving in 18,000 police departments across 50 U.S. states and territories. Rogue prosecutors—many of whom are funded by George Soros—are willfully creating lawlessness in order to appease the demands of the radical Left’s pro-crime, anti-victim agenda. As a former prosecutor, it is shameful to see my colleagues produce an environment that is unsafe for virtually all Americans.
“Rather than defunding and dismantling our law enforcement apparatus, Americans should support these heroes and empower them to do their jobs. This means we help provide our authorities with more funding, training, and resources at the local, state, and federal levels.
Zack Smith, a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation and former federal prosecutor added:
“As we commemorate our nation’s law enforcement this week, we ought to remember that where there’s crime there must also be accountability—or more crime will follow.
“Every day, our nation’s law enforcement risks their lives to protect our communities and help provide this accountability. But unfortunately, many criminals continue to be left unpunished by George Soros-backed prosecutors—who now represent one in five Americans. No society can function without law and order. The radical Left’s anti-police policies are creating enormous economic costs for businesses and taking the lives of innocent Americans. Their vision for American society is outright dangerous and must be addressed.”
