U.N. Specialized Agencies and Other International Organizations

U.N. Specialized Agencies & Other International Organizations

The United States is a member of or contributes financially to nearly 200 international organizations, funds, treaty bodies, councils, peacekeeping operations, and other entities. Each has virtues and problems and contributes differently to America’s strategic, economic, and political interests. The United States should participate where membership benefits American interests, cease participation when the costs outweigh the benefits, and always press for reforms to improve performance, efficiency, and accountability.
