Description

According to the American Founders, we can know that God and the natural law exist by reason. Indeed, the Declaration of Independence grounds our unalienable rights in a Creator.

In the twentieth century, however, American legal and political institutions departed from this founding consensus. They began to treat the existence of God and a natural moral law as sectarian beliefs that have little or no place in the public square.

In recent years, some scholars have argued for a recovery of something like the Founder’s vision. Reason, and the evidence of natural science, they maintain, point to the existence of God and the natural law. Recognition of these truths is not an unconstitutional establishment of religion. On the contrary, it provides a firm foundation for the rights Americans enjoy, including our religious liberty.

In books, articles, speeches, and high-profile debates, philosopher Stephen Meyer has spent decades building a public case for a Creator, and he has now summarized this work in his important book, The Return of the God Hypothesis: Three Scientific Discoveries That Reveal the Mind Behind the Universe

What should we make of these findings? And what do they mean for religious liberty, law, and public policy? Join us for a lively conversation on these questions.

Lunch will be available after the program.
