Sanctuary Cities Worsen Illegal Immigration Crisis

This week, the Senate weighs immigration proposals. Cully Stimson, Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, makes that case that sanctuary cities violate the rule of law and worsen the illegal immigration problem:

“As the debate around immigration continues, many cities are choosing not to enforce immigration law because they simply disagree with it. America is a nation of laws, not a banana republic where personalities disregard the law and pick and choose the ones they like. As it stands now, law enforcement in sanctuary cities that follow the law by capturing illegal aliens who are subject to immigration detainers may suffer legal liability for doing so. This is not how our country should work.”
