Heritage Foundation Hires John M. Mitnick as General Counsel

Washington, D.C., April 7, 2014—The Heritage Foundation has hired John M. Mitnick as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary. Mitnick serves as Heritage’s chief legal officer in the nonprofit think tank’s senior management team, advising on and overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters for Heritage and its related organizations. Among his responsibilities, Mitnick is the legal advisor and primary staff liaison to Heritage’s Board of Trustees.

Prior to joining Heritage, Mitnick served as Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary for Raytheon Technical Services Co. Previously, he was an Associate Counsel to President George W. Mitnick’s career also includes serving as the Associate General Counsel for Science and Technology at the Department of Homeland Security and as a partner at a major international law firm.

Heritage has grown tremendously over the last 15 years, in terms of staff, revenues, and members. We need to have a full-time general counsel to review all legal and compliance matters as well as coordinate all of our outside legal advisors,” said Heritage Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Phillip N. Truluck. “John’s background and experience are a perfect fit for this role, and we are delighted to have him on the Heritage team.”

One of the nation’s leading think tanks, The Heritage Foundation is committed to developing public policy solutions that advance free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional values and a strong national defense.
