MILITARY AFFAIRS

Americans must be able to act proactively to protect America, its citizens, and its interests. The U.S. Military must be capable and ready to be deployed anywhere our vital interests in are threatened, at any given time, and capable to succeed in a variety of different situations. This can only be achieved by giving the military the resources it needs to make us safer.

 

SPACE AND MISSILE DEFENSE

The threats the United States face today are evolving. Rogue nations are obtaining long-range nuclear missiles; countries are developing weapons capable of destroying satellites. We must meet these new threats with innovative defenses. The U.S. needs a comprehensive ballistic missile defense system that employs a multilayered defense system of sea, ground, and space-based systems. The U.S. must also look to protect the vital economic, defense, and intelligence interested in space.

 

COMPETITIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Remaining competitive is important for America to endure the Long War. New technologies are emerging that will have long term effects on America’s national security. It is imperative, therefore, to examine what steps America needs to take in order to continue to promote the development of new technology and what role funding should play in support of technological competitiveness.

 

HOMELAND SECURITY

Americans must recommit themselves to living the principles that made this nation safe, free, and prosperous while defending them against attack. The surest way to reduce America’s vulnerability is to provide persistent, sensible homeland security; the broad national effort by all levels of government - federal, state, and local - to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reduce America's vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur.

 

NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVES

Over the last several years the National Guard and Reserve component have been placed under alarming strain. Both have been frequently used in the war in Iraq. In addition the National Guard must also aid in homeland defense initiatives. They are facing a severe shortage of resources that must be addressed.
