Yu Shyi-kun was a founding member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and a Central Standing Committee Member for the first four consecutive terms. He has served as the DPP Secretary General and for two additional terms as a Central Standing Committee Member before being elected Chairman of the DPP this year. Mr. Yu served as Premier of Taiwan from 2002 to 2005 at which time he initiated the “Challenge 2008 national Development Plan,” a strategy aimed to increase Taiwan’s international competitiveness as well as upgrade and promote quality of life and sustainable development for Taiwan. He was appointed Chairman of the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation in 1998 and was Ilan County Magistrate for 8 years (1989-1997).
