The Bush Administration’s new surge strategy and offensives in Baghdad and the surrounding provinces have been a focus of fierce debate in Washington.  The entire complement of U.S. forces has been in place only since June, but many critics have already dismissed the surge as a failure.  Congress is demanding a change in the Iraq strategy even before the commanders on the ground fully understand the implications of the surge.   Join us as military historians examine past U.S. counter insurgency efforts and reflect on the U.S. government’s ability to grade the effectiveness of current military operations.
