The military’s role in war fighting is unquestioned, but its responsibilities in peace operations are both controversial and poorly understood. The U.S. military has conducted an operation related to peacekeeping, peacemaking, or post-conflict occupation roughly every two years since the end of the Cold War. The important role of the Department of State in post-conflict operations also is evolving. Despite these frequent post-conflict operations, the United States struggles in planning and conducting military interventions and post-conflict operations. Join us for a discussion on Iraq Reconstruction and the practical imperatives of nation-building.
