THAAD could provide some protection against Chinese short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) launched from Tonghua toward South Korea. However, THAAD could not intercept medium-range ballistic missiles (MRBMs) with a range of 1,800 kilometers and fired as “flank shots,” meaning not traveling directly toward the X-Band Radar.
