Disability Insurance Awards Rose During the Recession

Since the beginning of the recession in December 2007, the average number of monthly awards for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) has risen by more than 9,000. Total SSDI beneficiaries have risen by 1.8 million, or 25 percent.
