Quotas for Cellulosic Ethanol Are Unreachable

In 2013, the Environmental Protection Agency had to drastically revise its original quota for cellulosic biofuels set in 2007 because cellulosic ethanol has long struggled with commercial viability. However, even the revised figure dwarfs actual production levels.

Total production: 48,846 gallons

Revised quota: 6 million gallons

Initial quota: 1 billion gallons
