Falkland Islands offshore oil map

The Falkland Islands

Located more than 300 miles off the coast of Argentina, the Falkland Islands has a population of about 2,900, nearly all of them British. For decades, the island economy was driven by the fishing industry, but in recent years oil exploration has raised the likelihood of a new source of income. Licenses for offshore exploration have increased since in recent years as drilling has become commercially viable.
