When Disaster Strikes! - Public Support for State and Local Government Response
Recorded on April 29, 2005
Location: The Heritage Foundation's Van Andel Center
Various types of public support are available to state and local
governments outside of the traditional emergency procedures. There
are 6 to 10 million emergency responders in the United States that
could potentially show up at the scene of a disaster. These include
volunteers, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.
Our program will address how well state and local governments are
prepared to tap the vast human resources of dedicated and talented
Americans who stand ready to meet the threat of a terrorist attack
or a natural disaster.
