Perils and Possibilities: Petroleum Opportunities in Africa

The untapped energy resources may become an economic engine, which will contribute to Africa's future prosperity, alleviating misery and poverty which are widespread throughout the continent. Continuous turbulence in the Middle East have led to the search for alternative sources of oil and gas and have brought potential suppliers, such as Africa, into the spotlight. While African governments and the international donor community are addressing many issues throughout the continent, the world is also looking towards developing its large deposits of oil, in hopes of decreasing dependency on a single, politically volatile source.
