Naval Force Structure: Beyond the War on Terrorism

Recorded on October 7, 2004

Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium

Although recent military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have demonstrated the critical role of America's Navy in modern warfare, there continues to be explosive debate over what America's future naval forces should look like. The Administration has laid the groundwork for defense transformation; now the time has come to execute the plan. Does the Navy concentrate too heavily on the air craft carrier battle group?  Has the time arrived for new naval organizations and platforms? Will shipbuilding be dangerously curtailed due to inadequate resources?  How will global base restructuring fit into future naval requirements?

Please join us for a discussion by a distinguished panel that will explore the future possibilities for an efficient, effective United States Navy.
