Directed Energy: Moving Forward
Recorded on February 13, 2006
Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium
In recent years, technology has increasingly been viewed as a
critical enabler in military operations. However, before the
country spends billions of dollars on the latest technological
"must have," the United States must first consider whether the
technology can deliver on its promises and create the policies to
ensure the technology's smooth integration into the fighting force.
One technology that shows great promise for force protection and as
a defensive weapon is directed energy. This event will examine some
of the promises directed energy advocates make and whether the
technology can really match their claims. Speakers will also
discuss new and different applications for directed energy and how
soon these technologies may become operational.
