Asia: The View from Capitol Hill

Recorded on February 9, 2004

Location:
The Heritage Foundation's Van Andel Center

A broad spectrum of American interests critical to our economic and military security center in Asia. Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions threaten peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula; China's burgeoning military capabilities and economic might have the potential to make that country a "great power competitor" of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region; al Qa'eda linked terrorist groups such as Jemah Islamia and Abu Sayyaf still operate across Southeast Asia. How the Congress views Asia will be an important factor in determining how the United States meets these challenges. The Heritage Foundation presents a bipartisan panel of professional foreign affairs staff from both the House and the Senate to describe the view of Asia from Capitol Hill.
