Afghanistan Compact: A Progress Report from the Bonn Agreement to the London Conference

Recorded on March 20, 2006

Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium

Afghanistan, liberated from the repressive Taliban regime in 2001, has embraced democracy and rejected Islamic radicalism. In 2004 Afghans made Hamid Karzai their first democratically elected president and last September they elected a new parliament. Foreign Minister Abdullah will review the progress made in recent years and outline the political, economic, and security challenges that lie ahead for a country that remains a crucial theater in the war against terrorism and the global struggle for freedom.
