The Political Party Family Reunions

Recorded on August 28, 2012

We're seeing the biggest family reunions that America has to offer, as the family Republican and the family Democrat gather for their party conventions.

Like all families, they wondered if everyone would make it, what with weather problems and the economy and all.

And even while they all kiss and hug and swap stories and recipes, sometimes they end up squabbling—usually over the little things.

But these family reunions are on reality TV—if you consider people in goofy hats and gaudy clothes doing silly dances to be reality.

Why do they bother? We already know who the candidates are, and most of the speeches aren't exactly fresh news. But even in our day of email and tweets and texts, there's nothing like putting your arms around your cousin from Tennessee, or Oregon, or wherever.

Some things just have to be done in person.
