President Obama's Trillion-Dollar Hypocrisy

Recorded on July 25, 2012

You cannot have it both ways.

Speaking to veterans, President Obama spoke against reductions in defense spending that are scheduled to start in January. And his stump speeches proclaim his opposition to reductions in other spending.

Yet in those speeches, he also brags that he's cut spending by a trillion dollars. So he brags that he already cut spending even while he promises that he won't.

But no spending has been cut. Last year Obama and Congress agreed to make cuts in the future, but not until 2013. Any cuts would be spread over ten years—plenty of time to back out.

Even if cuts happened, although defense is only one-sixth of the budget, half the money would come from defense. That's just plain wrong.

Neither Obama nor Congress should get away with false claims about saving money, when in fact it's being spent.
