Number Games on Heat Wave

Recorded on July 6, 2012

You've heard stories claiming thousands of records are being broken by the heat wave. Alarmists claim it's global warming, and we should lower our standard of living and outlaw affordable energy,

Sure it's hot—but those folks are playing games with the numbers.

Online records at the National Weather Service show the exaggerations. In June, 410 records were broken; 235 were tied—but that is out of 174-thousand daily reports from thousands of weather stations. So heat records were set at less than 1 percent of all weather stations in the U.S.

The first week of July was hotter. 689 records were broken and 230 were tied, but that's barely 2 percent of almost 42,000 weather station reports that week.

Those alarmists should cool off their trumped-up rhetoric—and let's hope the temperature cools off, too.
