The Method Behind Obama Decision Is Dangerous

Recorded on June 18, 2012

The method behind President Obama's immigration announcement should be condemned by everyone.

Our Constitution says the President "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed".

Valid reasons may exist to decline prosecution of an individual case. But a mass refusal to enforce the law is a breach of duty.

If officials can disregard laws they don't like, there is no limit on what laws their supporters can violate.

It might be white-collar crime, violent crime, embezzlement, bribery, public health, traffic laws. Selective enforcement invites cronyism and corruption. Enemies are punished for breaking the law but political friends are not.

Those who dislike a law can seek to change it. But arguing “we can't wait” is dangerous nonsense. You don't bypass our Constitution just because you don't get what you want, when you want it.

Doing that is NOT the American way.
