Can We Wait or Not?

How would you describe today's Washington, DC? Gridlock? Obstructionism? Creeping socialism? Government gone wild?

President Obama has adopted a theme of “We can't wait,” and says he's trying to bypass Congress as much as possible. He gives orders to the federal bureaucracy to implement the White House agenda whether Congress agrees or not. Some of those disputes will end up in court, but those cases can take years to resolve.

The President is daring Congress to stop his agenda on environmental red tape, restrictions on fossil fuels, more protections for illegal immigrants, special favors for big labor, suppression of voter ID programs, and refusing to defend traditional marriage. On the campaign trail he's bragging about his in-your-face approach.

Our Constitution tries to balance powers between three branches of government. But when the President acts bull-headed, our whole system of democracy suffers.
