Istook988 Lets End Our Dependence on Foreign Chocolate

Recorded on March 22, 2012

Foreign oil isn't America's only problem.  We also depend on foreign sources for everyday needs like chocolate.

We consume 20% of the world's chocolate, but only produce 6% of the cocoa.  We consume 16% of the world's coffee, but grow less than 1%.  We make less than 1% of the TV sets, but use 17% of them.

So why don't we subsidize alternatives to chocolate, coffee and television sets?  Then we could also claim that we re creating jobs.

Instead, we should be glad that other countries want what we make and will trade those other things to us that we want.

We're throwing billions at insolvent green energy companies based on distortions of the facts.  You have to twist definitions to claim that we only have 2% of the world's oil reserves.  The federal Energy Department says otherwise.  America has a 200-year supply of oil, if we're willing to tap into it.
