Obama Dreams of Algae

Recorded on March 1, 2012

President Obama claims we could replace 17 percent of our imported oil with fuel made from algae. Even if we tried, we could never afford it.

Obama is already spending over $500-million of your tax money on algae, mostly with a company connected to the President's election campaign. The Navy has signed a contract to buy jet fuel made from biomass—at prices four times higher than regular jet fuel.

But plants simply don't contain as much energy as coal, oil or gas. Fossil fuels once were plants and animals, but they were compressed over millions of years into concentrated energy.

President Obama says we should not drill for oil because it might take us a few years. Yet he's spending your money on dreams of algae and biomass that take millions of years to compress into usable fossil fuels.
