Religious Freedom Fight

One recent abortion issue received huge attention from the national media, while another is almost ignored.

The prospect of less money for Planned Parenthood was widely condemned in the media. Protecting Planned Parenthood was given ten times more play on national TV networks than the surge of Catholic opposition to a new ObamaCare directive. The federal order requires employers to provide insurance for birth control, including morning-after pills that actually abort a new fetus.

Historically, exemptions were given for insurance covering employees of religious organizations—including church-run schools, hospitals, and charities. But the new Obamacare mandate says only those working in an actual house of worship are exempt.

The Catholic Church has activated its 70-million American members to protest. Some other faiths have joined the outcry, but so far the White House is tone deaf to its own violation of religious liberty.
