Obamacare versus Religious Freedom

Recorded on February 3, 2012

Is Obamacare being used to suppress religious freedom? That's what American Catholics are being told in letters read from the pulpit.

They've angry about the latest government edict, requiring employer-provided health insurance to cover all forms of government-approved contraception, including methods that chemically abort a newly-conceived fetus.

Clergy in a church itself are exempted from this part of Obamacare, but not workers in their affiliated schools, hospitals, and faith-based providers of services like adoption and counseling.

Catholics and many other faiths are declaring they will not comply with this Obamacare dictate. In some cases, they will drop health insurance entirely rather than include what they call mandatory coverage of abortions.

The debate is not about whether you're pro-life, but about religious freedom. When the Obama Administration interferes with fundamental beliefs of any church, it's a threat to our First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion.
