Taxes and Jealousy

It's time for common sense; I'm Ernest Istook.
Our Declaration of Independence declares we were created equal by God, but some believe government should dictate not equality of rights but equality of results by taking from those who have and giving to those who don’t. The result is the top 1% of earners pay 40% of the income tax. In the meantime, 40% of adults pay no income taxes at all; zero, towards things like national defense and homeland security. They only pay into social security and Medicare which provide them direct benefits in return.
The left sees income taxes as a way to win power by ganging up against those who produce jobs and wealth because they profit handsomely from doing so. Now is a good time to ponder whether tax policy is really based on fairness or just on jealousy of those who have more.
