Overcriminalization

"Overcriminalization" describes the trends in America - and particulary in Congress - to use the criminal law to "solve" every problem, punish every mistake (instead of making proper use of civil penalties), and coerce Americans into conforming their behavior to satisfy social engineering objectives.

HR 779: Amendment to the Internal Revenue Code Of 1986

Official Title

To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to double the damages, fines, and penalties for the unauthorized inspection or disclosure of returns and return information, and for other purposes.

Analysis

Turns misdemeanor crime of unauthorized disclosure or inspection of tax records into a felony (doubles sentence from 1 to 2 years).
