In Broken Borders, Broken Promises, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples highlights the good, the bad, and the ugly of our nation's attempts to secure our borders and manage the millions of people here illegally. He examines, not only the challenges facing our country, but also documents the daily dangers, threats, and violence faced by Texas farmers and ranchers along the border. In addition to detailing the overpowering impact of this issue, he posits a framework for reform to address this vexing and critical problem facing our nation.
Todd Staples is Commissioner of Agriculture for the State of Texas, an office he was first elected to in 2006. He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate. A native of Palestine (Anderson County) in east Texas, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics magna cum laude at Texas A&M University. His entrepreneurial experience includes the areas of landscape nursery, cattle ranching and real estate. He also is a former instructor at Trinity Valley Community College.
